After inconsistencies and unforced mistakes - including eight service errors - enabled visiting Windsor to swipe the first two games by scores of 17-25 and 22-25, the Lady Dragons began the long comeback climb out of the deep deficit by capturing game three by a 25-16 margin. Then in the crucial fourth game, Sonoma held off the Lady Jaguars' strong charge from behind and claimed a 25-22 victory, which set up the final game to 15 for the match win.
With the momentum from the thrilling fourth-game triumph, the Lady Dragons jumped out quick on Windsor in the SCL match-deciding game, this time forcing the mistakes and cruising home with a 15-4 triumph. Sonoma was led by senior Lauren Fisher's 49 digs and two serving aces; senior Kendall Smith's 14 kills and a block; senior Sophia Somers' 11 kills and a block; junior Molly Lyons' eight kills and a block; sophomore setter Jersey Witous' four kills and two blocks; sophomore Suzanne Amaral's three aces; and junior Kaylee Vollert's ace.
The Lady Dragons - directed by head coach Mindy Neves and assistant coaches Brittany Anderson and Julia Somers - play league foe Casa Grande tonight in Petaluma before hosting SCL-leading Petaluma this Thursday evening, Oct. 15, starting at 6:30 p.m. in Pfeiffer Gym. Sonoma's freshmen and junior varsity play Thursday at 4 and 5 p.m., respectively.
