Both Sonoma Valley High School's varsity soccer boys' and girls' teams turned in dominant peformances earlier in the week that led to a pair of identical 3-0 Sonoma County League wins over El Molino.

Playing their fifth of the last six SCL matches on the road, Sonoma's soccer girls used a shut-down defense and a relentless, striking offense en route to their third straight league win and a two-match sweep of the Lady Lions Tuesday afternoon in Forestville. Leading the Lady Dragons were senior Karina Davis' and Samantha Lind's one goal and one assist each, sophomore Emily Wilber's goal and junior Ellie Ceja's assist.

The Lady Dragons - directed by head coach Pamela Wiley and assistant coach Bob Branconi - next host longtime rivals Petaluma and Casa Grande this Tuesday and Thursday, Oct. 13 and 15, respectively, in 4 p.m. SCL matches at the high school field. Also winning their third straight SCL match were Sonoma's soccer boys, whose blanking of visiting El Molino Wednesday afternoon at the high school field followed a 2-1 victory over longtime league-power Analy in Sebastopol, and, again on the road, beating a solid Healdsburg squad 3-2 in overtime.

Leading the Dragons past El Molino, which upended them in their SCL opener last month in Forestville, were an unassisted goal each by junior Victor Robles and junior Johnny Medina, with their third goal coming courtesy of the Lions off an own-goal.

With the victory, the Sonoma boys - directed by longtime coach Pedro Merino, who's assisted by Mike Linder - improved their SCL record to 4-2-1 and, after a bye today, they play at Petaluma this Wednesday evening, Oct. 14, before hosting Casa Grande at 4 p.m. next Friday, Oct. 16, at the high school field.
