A Sonoma County Deputy Sheriff happened to be in the right place at the right time and interrupted an assault in progress.

At about 12:15 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, Deputy Dylan Fong was on patrol in the area of Verano Avenue and Main Street, across from Maxwell Farms Regional Park, when he spotted an altercation with three people apparently involved. One of the three, a woman, ran over to Fong's vehicle yelling for help. A second person was apparently a passerby who was trying to intervene on the woman's behalf.

The woman told Fong that she had a prior relationship with the suspect, Noe Silva Florintino, 27, of Boyes Hot Springs. The woman said that while they hadn't been together in about a year, they occasionally frequented a club on Riverside Drive and Grove Street, where they had been this particular evening. After leaving the club, the couple argued and Florintino reportedly pushed her into the bushes, was beating her up, ripping her clothes off and threatened to kill her. Florintino was arrested and booked into Sonoma County Jail on charges of felony domestic violence with injury, false imprisonment, making threats to terrorize, felony using false government documents and giving false identification to a peace officer. He is being held on no bail.

In other incidents reported to the sheriff's Valley substation:

Wednesday, July 29:
12:57 p.m. - Deputies were sent to the 800 block of Walnut Avenue, after a 17-year-old male reportedly assaulted his 13-year-old sister when she wanted to change bedrooms with him. The father told deputies to arrest his son, so the youth was charged with battery and received a free ride to juvenile hall.

4:02 p.m. - A 26-year-old Boyes Hot Springs man is on the lam after reportedly punching out a friend of his girlfriend in the 18200 block of Happy Lane. It seems the man and his girlfriend were arguing about her swim suit and an apparent "wardrobe malfunction" she suffered while in the pool. The girlfriend's friend tried to step in between the pair and ended up reportedly getting punched in the face for her trouble. The girlfriend and her friend went to the hospital for treatment while the boyfriend, who deputies discovered is on probation for vandalism, up and vanished.

10:30 p.m. - An audible alarm probably chased off the burglar or burglars who had broken a window and were trying to gain entry into the pro shop at Los Arroyos Golf Course in the 5700 block of Stage Gulch Road. The next morning, the owner reported that nothing was missing.

Thursday, July 30:

12:09 a.m. - While on foot patrol in downtown Glen Ellen, deputies spotted a man getting into a vehicle in front of a vehicle repair shop. After contacting the man, Lonnie VanWinkle, 47, of Kenwood, deputies discovered he was on probation for an earlier drug conviction, and the probation included clauses for search and seizure. While searching VanWinkle, they reportedly found him in possession of a syringe and some methamphetamine. VanWinkle was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of a syringe with a prescription and a probation violation.

9 a.m. - A domestic incident landed Victor Homel, 30, of Boyes Hot Springs, in jail after his girlfriend told deputies she wanted the man gone after he reportedly broke up a bed. While one deputy was talking to the victim, Homel apparently decided he would leave, but out the back door instead of in a squad car. After leaping the back fence, Homel was captured and was arrested on charges of vandalism, obstructing a peace officer and a felony domestic violence incident that occurred a week before. Homel had also been released on supervised own recognizance from an earlier incident, and he apparently had violated the terms of his release.

11:53 a.m. - A resident in the 20800 block of Via Colombard, reported that for the last week, a man who identified himself as an employee of CVS pharmacy in Florida, called him every morning asking personal questions. When the victim contacted the manager of the local CVS pharmacy, he was told that the company didn't make calls like that and that he should notify the police.

Friday, July 31:

2:45 p.m. - A resident in the 1300 block of Mission Drive, reported that sometime overnight, someone stole the 2010 DMV sticker from her license plate.

Sunday, Aug. 2:

1:30 a.m. - An 18-year-old bicyclist was stopped in the vicinity of Highway 12 and Mountain Avenue, for an equipment violation. The man exhibited signs that he was under some sort of stimulant, and he admitted that he had done some cocaine about four hours earlier. He was arrested and charged with use of, or being under the influence of, a controlled substance.

3:22 p.m. - An incident in a liquor store in the 18000 block of Highway 12, landed a 26-year-old Boyes Hot Springs resident in jail charged with robbery. The clerk saw a man who he recognized come into the store and apparently put some bottles of wine into his backpack. The man then went over to the cooler and grabbed a 24-pack of beer which he tried to pay for. The clerk wanted to know what the man had put into his backpack and tried to open the pack. The suspect struggled with the clerk and threatened him before fleeing the store. Based on a description, the deputies put together a picture lineup and the clerk picked out the suspect. On Wednesday, Aug. 5, deputies arrested Tony Stephen Paquette, 26, and charged him with robbery.

Tuesday, Aug. 4:

3:55 a.m. - Deputies interrupted a burglary in progress at the Presentation School in the 20800 block of Broadway. Deputies surrounded the building and found an open window. A door opened and out sauntered Brian Anthony Covillo, 34, of Sonoma, with a flashlight that had a red lens so as not to attract attention. Covillo took off running and was apprehended by Deputy Brent Kidder, but not before putting up a struggle. Covillo, who is a parolee, was arrested and charged with burglary, obstructing or resisting and a parole violation.

11:40 a.m. - Deputies arrested Hugo Mura, 36, of the 100 block of San Luis Road, on an outstanding felony warrant for theft of utility services.

8:07 p.m. - A resident in the 18200 block of Lucas Avenue, reported that sometime between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. that day, someone had entered the residence through a bathroom window and took a jar of coins that contained about $20.
