Listen up, council members
Editor, Index-Tribune:
The rudeness and immaturity of certain Sonoma City Council members walking out of a public meeting in a huff is troubling. What is important to one group of citizens may be boring and immaterial to others. Anyone who has attended a local government meeting can attest to that. Yet I would hope our elected officials would exhibit the common courtesy to listen to all, and then vote as their consciences dictate. That is what they signed up to do. Maybe some folks should close their mouths and open a history book.
The seeds of some of our nation's most cherished principles of government - constitutional democracy, the abolition of slavery, environmental protection - were planted at local town hall meetings. John MacConaghy
