Sturgeon fishing in the north part of the bay near the Pump House has picked up considerably since last week, reports Keith Fraser at Loch Lomond Bait Shop in San Rafael. There is also some action off China Camp and at the mouth of Sonoma Creek. Keith can arrange a party boat for your fishing. Call him at (415) 456-0321.

Striped Bass fishing is just fair, but with live shrimp as bait, anglers are getting a few stripers along with some good action with the sturgeon. Giant Humboldt squid are still biting most days off the Sonoma Coast said Capt. Rick Powers of Bodega Bay Sportfishing. He is taking out anglers on a daily basis depending on the weather and demand. Call Rick at 875-3344 to arrange a trip.

Santa Rosa's Lake Ralphine will get a load of rainbow trout from the Department of Fish and Game next week. Fishing at Clear Lake, Berryessa and Lake Sonoma is slow. The water is cold and the fish are hanging near the bottom. I saw one report from an angler who used live minnows at Clear Lake and did pretty well. The crank bait anglers have had to work very hard for just a a few fish.

The lower Sacramento River between Redding and Red Bluff is still very good fishing for trout and some steelhead. The Trinity River is also producing some good steelhead action. Another river just coming into its best time is the Klamath, particularly the upper portion.

Closer to home, the Russian River is just not getting enough water to move the fish up. This would normally be a pretty good time for steelhead on the river. But not much action reported so far. The Smith River is up and down as the rain falls on the North Coast. Could be pretty good this weekend depending on what storms blow through
