Dorothea graduated from UCLA, earned a teaching credential there and taught elementary school for several years. Leaving teaching, she trained Girl Scout leaders, devising innovative training programs that brought her recognition by the national office of the Girl Scouts. She then turned to her long-standing interest in ancient Egypt. With a primary emphasis on the roles of women, she belonged to both the American and British societies of Egyptologists, publishing in a British journal, and giving several papers at national conventions in the United States.
Since its opening in 1998, she has served as a volunteer at the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art. She was a warm and loving human being, with a zest for life that impacted on her family and others who knew her.
