Chuck was born on July 28, 1930, to Theora Sue and McKinley Thompson in Rossville, Ga. He left the South as a young man, joined the Navy and served in the Korean Conflict. A creative individual, he was a graduate of the California College of Arts and Crafts in industrial design. His first job with Container Corporation of America was the beginning of his successful career in merchandising. For years he was a participant in the Point-of-Sale Advertising Community in San Francisco and ultimately formed his own company, Thompson Promotions. He created, developed and produced point-of-sale material for such companies as Beringer and Gloria Ferrer.
Since 1997, he and his wife, Jean, have lived in Sonoma. He loved the game of golf, made custom clubs and marshaled at Adobe. He was an elegant man, eager for life, sports, art and travel, especially his many sojourns to Mexico. He will be greatly missed by his family and loyal friends.
In California, he is survived by his wife, Jean, of 41 years; sons, Scot and Max Thompson, daughter, Kimberly, and her husband, Lyn Tatro; two grandchildren, Katherine and Kyle Tatro; and brother, Johnnie Mack Thompson, in Chattanooga, Tenn.
A celebration of Chuck's life will be held at the family residence in Sonoma on Tuesday, July 29, at 1 p.m. If desired, donations may be made in his name to the Sonoma Relay for Life or to the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art. Arrangements under the direction of Duggan's Mission Chapel, Mission Cremation Service in Sonoma.
