Kids fly fishing camp
By Bill Lynch
Local chiropractor and avid fly fisher and fly-fishing instructor Julie Carlson sent me a notice that there is going to be a two-Saturday fly-fishing day camp for kids 10 to 15 years old in Santa Rosa on May 10 and 17.
The event, "Youth Fly Fish," will offer free fly fishing classes to all boys and girls 10 to 15. The first session is at Galvin Park Casting Ponds, and the second is at Spring Lake Park (upper Jack Rabbit parking area). Both run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with all equipment and lunch provided. It is being co-sponsored by The Russian River Fly Fishers, Western Sports Santa Rosa, The Sonoma County Water Agency and the Department of Fish and Game.
To register (or for more information) contact Julie at 479-1919 or villadellavita@comcast.net. Julie also had a fabulous trip to Tierra del Fuego recently landing some beautiful trout.
Halibut and striped bass fishing in the bay have been terrific this week. If the wind calms, this should be an excellent time to go fishing there.
Area lakes including Sonoma, Berryessa and Clear Lake are all fishing fair to good depending on the wind. Warmer days seem to increase the bite. Last week, Lake Ralphine in Santa Rosa got some rainbow trout from the DFG. Next week Lagunitas and Bon Tempe in Marin get a load.
