'Chilly Willie' softball tourney goes to bat for autistic children
By Steven Serafini
5.31.05 -- Taking the field for a competitively fun weekend of softball action that fueled such a worthy cause, the third annual Sonoma Valley Mens' "Chilly Willie" softball tournament - benefiting autistic children - recently took place and was, again, a big success.
Played at the Sonoma Developmental Center's field, all the proceeds were donated to the SCOE (Sonoma County Office of Education) special-education day classes at the Valley's Dunbar School. On the first day of the "Chilly Willie" round-robin schedule, the Diamond Brawlers and Ebert's Landscaping claimed the number-one seeds, but were outsted from the single-elimination tourney by Tony's Misfits and Larbre Automotive.
In the hard-fought tournament title game, Tony's Misfits captured the championship by pulling out a last-inning victory over Larbre Automotive. Rounding out the "Chilly Willie" field were Calleja Plumbing, Fats, McNeilly's Tavern and the London Lodge Wolves. Members of the benefit tourney committee extended their appreciation to Calleja Painting, Calleja Plumbing, A.P.L.E. Shirts, Benzinger Family Winery, Cornerstone Festival of Gardens and Market Café, Don, Christian and Cruz of Longs Drugs, Tyler Althen, Mark, Matt and Jerry Calleja, Tony Averette, Scotty Mace, Brian McVeigh, and Mr. and Mrs. Peterson for their help in making this event possible.
