Red Cross honors Lyons, others as 'heroes'

Other honorees at the Real Heroes Breakfast included a group of teens who saved a drowning woman's life, a dedicated nurse who went above and beyond to help her patients, and two members of the California Army National Guard who sacrificed for their country in Iraq, one of them giving his life. The Lyons created Lyon Ranch to save countless animals from abuse or euthanasia.
After rescue, the Lyons help their animals bring joy to people living in nursing homes, hospitals, retirement communities and children's centers. Other honorees included Joey Crottigini, educator; Public Safety Officer Jeff Justice, law enforcement; Family Nurse Practitioner and Physician's Assistant Annie Nicol, medical; David Paulsen, Tysen Gray, Kate McCreary, John Pierce and Tom Walton, good samaritan, youth; Chelene Reynolds, good samaritan, adult; the late Clydagh Hedges, good samaritan, senior; Bob Burke, workplace; Brit Horn and Andy Pforsich, rescue professionals; Jessalyn Nash, spirit of the Red Cross; Sgt. First Class Michael Ottolini and Sgt. Daniel Nevins, military.
Former Santa Rosa Mayor Sharon Wright and a panel of community leaders chose winners of the Real Heroes awards.
