A man wielding what was described as an assault-type weapon robbed the Subway Sandwich shop in the 900 block of Broadway Saturday night and escaped with an undetermined amount of cash.

According to a release from Sgt. Spencer Crum with the Sonoma Police Department, at about 8:40 p.m. Saturday, the store clerk said that a white male adult wearing a black coat with a hood, entered the store, removed an assault-style weapon from his jacket, pointed it at the clerk and demanded money from the register.

The clerk gave the armed man the money from the register, then the robber demanded money from the safe. The clerk told the robber he didn’t have the combination at which time the robber ordered the clerk to the ground and fled out the back door.

Crum said the suspect is described as a white male in his 30s, medium build with brown unshaven facial hair.

If anyone has any information regarding this case, they are encouraged to contact the Sonoma Police Department at 996-3602.

The perp may be from another city somewhere in California, meaning that investigators would need a big break to identify a potential suspect.
