Analy drubs depleted Dragon grapplers

Defending their Sonoma County League title, while dealing with an incomplete lineup and some illness, took a big hit Wednesday night in Sebastopol, where Sonoma Valley High School’s varsity wrestlers were soundly defeated 66-6 by a deep and fully loaded Analy team.

After having to forfeit seven of the 14 weight-class matches, only two Dragons could muster wins, with senior co-captain Max Schimm posting a close 6-4 victory over Rypka at 162 pounds, and freshman Noah Bartolome’s earning an 8-3 triumph over Nogleberg at 147.

Sonoma’s five other wrestlers’ results included junior Jake Randuch's 5-4 nipping bv Vagan at 140 pounds; sophomore Austin Beltran’s 8-7 edging by Merhaz at 184; sophomore Brandon Ruiz’s pin-loss to Adams at 172; sophomore David Price’s pin-defeat to Mulato at 154; and frosh Victor Vazquez’s loss by way of a pin to Schneider at 122.

The next SCL dual match for the Dragon grapplers is Thursday, Jan. 30, at longtime rival Petaluma.
