Altimira eighth-graders move on

Altimira Middle School promoted 155 eighth-graders in ceremonies on Thursday, June 5.

The school conferred a number of honors at its awards evening on May 29.

Subject awards were earned by Patty Olascoaga and Jose Velasquez in art; Khyren Cox and Dean Dunham in band; William Eastin, Jaya Garcia, Eliza Neeley, Emma Pomeroy-Carillo and Micheala Weber in English language arts and Fidel Jacuinde in English language development. Also, Oliver Cromeyer, Max Psaledakis, Alfonso Ramirez, Yuliana Sanabria-Argota and Jonathan Shelton in horticulture; Molly Brown, Lindsey Lee and Delfino Macias in leadership; Fidel Jacuinde, Karina Pureco and Kimverly Uzzo in math; Jaya Garcia and Elizabeth Mendoza Lopez in physical education; Eliza Neeley in science and Rene Rodriguez in technology art.

In community awards, Salvador Garcia and Lindsey Lee received the Alison Tweeden Scholar-Athlete Award; Alondra Carrillo and Salvador Garcia received the Boys & Girls Clubs “Be Great” Award; Molly Brown and Max Psaledakis were awarded Daughters of the American Revolution good citizenship medals.

Lauren Smith received the Kosal Long Memorial Award while Alondra Bandt received the La Luz ELD Award.

The Soroptimist Most Improved Award went to Olivia Morenzoni and Emma Pomeroy-Carillo.

The President’s Award for Educational Excellence was awarded to Kohana Bowman, Isabel Eagles, Sophia Falls, Eliza Neeley and Kimberly Uzzo.

Isabel Eagles and Kimberly Uzzo maintained a 4.0 grade point average all eight trimesters.

Dean Durham and Kimberly Uzzo received the Principal’s Award; Wyatt Pomeroy-Carrillo and Bryan Yuriar-Villanueva received the Vice Principal’s Award while Kohana Bowman and Eliza Neeley were named Students of the Year.
