Alexa Wood talks Beltane Ranch history

The intriguing history of Beltane Ranch will be revealed in a talk given by Alexa Wood at the Depot Park Museum at 2 p.m. Friday, March 14.

Wood, her mother, Rosemary Wood, and Rosemary’s parents all lived on the property – once inhabited by Wappo Indians. Alexa Wood continues to live there and runs the bed and breakfast while her son, Alex, manages the vineyards.

Beltane Ranch was once home to the mysterious Mary Ellen Pleasant, who is believed to have run a brothel there. It’s now surrounded by gardens, olive orchards and vineyards with grazing horses and cattle; and organically farmed produce gardens that supply food for guests.

“It’s been a lot of work but I can’t imagine living anywhere else,” said Alexa Wood who adds that her kids are also devoted to the ranch.

The March 14 talk is free and open to the public.

Depot Park Museum, operated by the Sonoma Valley Historical Society, is located at 270 First St. W., in Sonoma, adjacent to Arnold Field.
