Brian Smucker becomes chair of Fair Trade Federation

May 30, 2011 - 10:29 AM

Brian Smucker, co-owner of Baksheesh fair trade stores, has taken office as chair of the board of directors of the Fair Trade Federation. He was installed at the annual meeting of the trade organization in Milwaukee on May 8, following elections in April.

Both Brian and co-owner Candi Horton Smucker also gave presentations to fair trade managers from across the US and Canada. Brian’s covered sales trends and best-selling fair trade products. Candi’s focused on pricing.

Fair Trade Federation is the only national organization for fully committed fair trade businesses. FTF provides a variety of services for its members, including an annual conference. FTF also works with other fair trade organizations to raise public awareness about fair trade and Third World artisans.

To become a member, a business must pass a detailed screening process and satisfy all nine principles of fair trade. For more on the principles and FTF membership, contact Baksheesh or the Fair Trade Federation.

Baksheesh operates stores at 423 First Street West, Sonoma, and 1327 Main Street, St. Helena.
