Baby's First Christmas

Dollars on the Driveway

Nov 28, 2011 - 10:32 AM

Babies and Christmas. Christmas and babies. They just go together, like Jingle and Bells.

Even though I, personally, have not been blessed with babies of my own, I love watching little ones at Christmas time. Before they can even talk or walk, you can see the magic and wonder in their eyes when they see all the pretty colors and whimsical Santas and elves and reindeer.

"...babies were a part of the Christmas miracle."

I have five nephews and one niece. All but two are too old for the kid stuff at Christmas. I am very grateful, then, for the two little ones. At six years old, they still believe in the magic.

I remember all of the kids when they were tiny babies and enjoying their first Christmases. Even though at less than a year old, none of them had any clue about what was going on, it was still fun to watch them with this special first experience. Whether they were trying to eat ribbon or climb in the box the toy came in, those babies were a part of the Christmas miracle.

Every year for the last five years, The Sonoma Index-Tribune has celebrated local babies and their first Christmas with our very special "Baby's First Christmas" page. This runs on the last issue before (or on) Christmas Day. This year, it will run on Friday, December 23, and the deadline is Noon on Wednesday, December 14. The cost is $40 and for that you get: Photo of the baby; baby's first, middle and last name; date of birth; and mom & dad's names. In addition, you get a very special commemorative plaque to remember this special year.

In the past, we have had people ask about including photos of siblings. We've had to say no, sadly. However, we now have an option for that this year! If you want to include more information or add someone else in the photo, call me for prices and I'll help you out.

Of all the wonderful issues we produce twice a week, every week, this page is my favorite. And I know a lot of our readers and local families have come to look to this new tradition every year. As a special bonus this year, the page will also go online!

This year, be a part of it with your brand new addition! And congratulations on your new  baby.
