AAUW luncheon raises scholarship funds
The American Association of University Women is holding its annual scholarship fundraiser to support women pursuing higher education. A luncheon catered by Elaine Bell will be followed by a raffle and silent auction on Friday, April 29, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Burlingame Hall, 252 W. Spain St.
The event will feature a presentation by Rachel Giraudo, Ph.D., the recipient of a national AAUW scholarship. She also received a Fulbright grant, a scholarship for her master's from Cambridge University and many other honors and awards.
She will cover her two-year research project in Botswana, focusing on the topic of tourism and the local economy.
Items for the auction include works by local artists, wine and two unusual tours complete with an afternoon tea: one of a property listed in the National Historic Register and the other of California's first passive house.
Tickets for the luncheon are $38.
The public is invited to attend.
