The NASCAR Sprint Cup circus arrives in Sonoma June 24 for the Toyota/Save Mart 350, minus one of the biggest names in auto racing. Danica Patrick (at bottom), who jumped ship from Indy Car Racing to try her hand at NASCAR, is still learning the ropes driving cars with fenders that go bump on the track.
Patrick’s NASCAR rides are primarily in the second-tier Nationwide Series, where she currently ranks ninth in the standings. She has completed three Sprint Cup races so far this season, but won’t race with the big boys again until October.
Meanwhile, the top three Sprint Cup contenders are Greg Biffle, Matt Kenset and Denny Hamlin, while former local favorite Jeff Gordon (at left) languishes in 22nd place.
