Sift four and nutmeg together. Cream butter and gradually add sugar, creaming well. Blend in egg, vanilla and rum flavorings. Gradually add dry ingredients: mix thoroughly. Shape pieces of dough on lightly floured surface into long rolls, 1/2-inch in diameter. Cut in 3-inch lengths. Place on ungreased baking sheets. Bake in 350° oven for 12 to 15 minutes until light golden brown. Cool; spread frosting on tops and sides of cookies. Mark with tines of fok to resemble bark. Sprinkle lightly with nutmeg. FROSTING: 3 T. butter 1/2 t. vanilla 1 t. rum flavoring 1/2 cup sifted confectioner’s sugar 2 cups additional sifted confectioner’s sugar 2-3 T. undiluted evaporated milk Cream butter with vanilla and rum flavoring. Blend in 1/2 cup sifted confectioner’s sugar, beating well. Add 2 cups additional sugar alternately with undiluted evaporated milk, beating well after each addition until of spreading consistency.
