We’re not SONOMAWOOD

Mar 14, 2013 - 05:20 PM

Editor, Index-Tribune:

Sonoma is not Hollywood. Sonoma is a small town that has become popular to outsiders who are conspicuous consumers of water, land and resources.

I am embarrassed that the mayor of Sonoma supports a sign that is tantamount to a mockery of our little town. If there had to be a sign placed at the Plaza, it should be one that is a reflection of our town; our history, our goals.

The SONOMAWOOD sign is not in any way a reflection of our town. It is not even a result of a unanimous people’s choice. I see that sign as a not-so-veiled invitation to those who ensconce themselves in our community by buying up land for more vines, overuse of our precious water resource, and bilking our labor force by paying extremely low wages to continue their economic pillaging of our town.

No. This town is not “SONOMAWOOD.” This is the town of Sonoma, home of Mission Sonoma, home of the Bear Flag Rebellion, and home to folks who are proud to be living in one of the few remaining small towns of California.
