Theodore William Jones

Theodore William Jones passed from among us Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, in Sonoma.

Ted, was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., May 21, 1928. He is survived by his beloved sister, Millie; three sons: Christopher, Ian and Brian; daughter, Megan; grandson, Michael; daughters-in-law, Sue Ann and Margie; son-in-law, Bill; and many other loving, caring relations and friends.

Ted was a child of the Depression. He played football, ran track and swam competitively. He was an Eagle Scout and a lifeguard at camp.

Ted met Janet Preece of San Francisco during his first year of Navy duty in 1945. They fell in love, married and settled in the San Francisco Bay Area until a construction boom lured Ted to Lake Tahoe, Nev., in the late 1960s. They eventually moved to Carson City, Nev., where Ted ran a successful contracting business and eventually retired.

Ted was a loving father and husband. He put his family first and made certain they never wanted. He was a gifted architectural designer, and a respected building contractor. Ted donated endless hours to community pursuits and charities. He was voted man of the year multiple times in both the Northern Nevada Builders Association and the Sertoma Club. Ted built some of the finest homes in the Carson/Reno area.

Ted and Janet traveled extensively in Europe and state-side and made friends wherever they went.

Ted eventually lost Janet, and later married Flora Nystrom, the second love of his life. They lived together happily until 2009 when Flora passed away. After Flora’s passing, Ted spent the remainder of his years living near son, Brian and daughter-in-law, Sue, in Sonoma.

A celebration of Ted’s life will be announced. Donations can be made to your favorite local charity. Think of Ted when you toast friends over a cold glass of beer, lend a hand to those in need, or pat the head of a furry black dog.
