For a week in early January, dozens of pieces of student artwork were on display at the Sonoma Valley Regional Library on West Napa Street. The works ranged from mixed media to pastels to watercolors and collage. The art is the result of a year-round Boys & Girls Clubs program that encourages artistic expression among club members ages 6 to 18. The goal of the program is to uncover the artistic talents of members and motivate them to develop their skills and possibly explore career opportunities. First place winners are selected to move on to the club’s regional exhibit and to compete for scholarships. Pictured clockwise from top are, Danielle Suico, Maxwell Clubhouse director, who oversees the project for the Boys & Girls Club; Luis Gonzalez, a fifth-grader at Sassarini Elementary School; Hailey Padgett, a first-grader at Prestwood Elementary School; and Oscar Fernandez, a third-grader at El Verano Elementary School.
