Reaching the highest level of high school wrestling in California, and one of the country’s premier prep wrestling events, Sonoma Valley High School senior Aidan Lacy takes the mat today for the start of the two-day CIF state championships in Bakersfield.
Lacy qualified for the state tournament with his standout second-place medal performance at 220 pounds during last Saturday’s North Coast Section championships at Newark Memorial High School.
In today’s first-round state match, unseeded Lacy – coached by Kyle Baird and Deets Winslow and sporting a 47-6 record – will, unfortunately, have to face the 220-pound second-seed junior Derrick Jones, who is a Southern Section champion from Bloomington.
The Dragons’ other three NCS medalists who just missed qualifying for state were seniors Jonny Amandoli, Sam Denning and Giordi Serafini.
