With productive post play providing the foundation for another dominating team performance, the Sonoma Valley High School varsity basketball girls completed a victorious Sonoma County League road “trifecta” last Thursday night in Santa Rosa.

After opening the SCL season with back-to-back one-sided wins at El Molino and Piner, the Lady Dragons, powered by senior Ashley Vail and sophomores Mackenzie Albrecht and Delaney Swanson, raced out to a 19-9 first-quarter lead and never looked back in their resounding 56-21 defeat of new league member Elsie Allen.

Sonoma’s third straight win sets up tonight’s SCL home opener against Healdsburg in Pfeiffer Gym, with the junior varsity playing at 6, and the varsity tipping off at the usual 7:30 p.m. starting time.

The Lady Dragons then go back on the road for an SCL showdown with Analy this Thursday, Jan. 17, before returning to the Valley for a four league-game homestand starting this Saturday evening, Jan. 19, against their third consecutive longtime rival, Petaluma.

Leading the Sonoma girl cagers past Elsie Allen were Vail’s double-double of a game-high 16 points to go with 10 rebounds; Albrecht’s double-double of 15 points and a game-high 16 rebounds; Swanson’s 12 points, seven rebounds, two steals and one blocked shot; senior Ali Romano’s six points and two assists; senior Kendall Ashe’s five points, six assists and four rebounds; junior Megan Neely’s two points and four rebounds.
