Sonoma Valley Chorale has special guest conductor

The Sonoma Valley Chorale is back in action this weekend and they will have a special guest conductor. Mark Hays is a composer, arranger and pianist and he will be conducting the chorale in a variety of his original music and arranged scores. Hays is the winner of an award from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers and the Gospel Music Association’s Dove Award. Showtimes are Saturday, March 23, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 24, at 2 p.m. at the Sonoma Valley Veterans Memorial Building. Hays will also be leading a workshop on Saturday afternoon before that days performance from 1 to 4 p.m., which is open to singers, conductors and other interested parties. This weekend, the El Verano Inn is bringing a blues legend to town. Longtime guitar player for Joe Luis Walker, Levi Lloyd and his 501 Blues Band will take the small stage at the EVI on Saturday, March 23, for a no cover show that starts at 9 p.m. Lloyd has played with everyone from B. B King to the late John Lee Hooker.

The Plaza Bistro has Jazz Gitan tonight, March 22, for a 6:30 p.m. show. Jazz Gitan is an acoustic jazz trio that specializes in “The Hot Club” style of jazz in the tradition of gypsy swing created by Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli during their domination of the Paris jazz scene in the ’30s. Tonight’s act features Don Price playing lead guitar, Ken Billeci on rhythm guitar and Jane Thompson on bass. There is no cover.

The Kathmandu Corner presents Ian Hinkley tonight, March 22, for an 8 p.m. show. Saturday, March 23, there is no music as the venue is closed for a private event.

The Gristmill Bar and Grill in Glen Ellen welcomes the Alan Early Trio on Saturday, March 23, for an evening of jazz standards, kicking off at 6 p.m.

Olive and Vine in Glen Ellen will have the John Burdick Band on Sunday, March 24, that will feature Kurt Krauthamer on harmonica. Showtime is 6 p.m. and is part of the Supper Club Sunday program at the venue.

The Annex Wine Bar welcomes Sean Carscadden and Josh Yenne tonight, March 22, for a 7 p.m. show. Saturday, March 23, the annex has 2 Friends and a Benz.  This could be one of young Katie Benz’s last local shows for a while. Apparently there’s a possibility that she has been hired to be part of the soccer coaching team at the University of Florida. The show gets underway at 7 p.m. There is no cover either night. 

The Eric James Tasting Room has Michael Peloquin, Kevin Zuffi and Tim Eschliman tonight, March 22, for a 7 p.m. show. Saturday, March 23, it’s Macy Blackman, also for a 7 p.m. show. There is no cover for either show.

Murphy’s Irish Pub has Tim O’Neil tonight, March 22, kicking off at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 23, there will be no music, as the venue is closed for a private event. Sunday, March 24, it’s Old Time Dinner Theater with the Murphy’s Dinner Theater Players, kicking off at 
5:30 p.m. For tickets and more info, call Sharry at 815-6159.

The Blue Moon Saloon Saloon has Karaoke on Saturday, March 23, kicking off at 10 p.m. show. The Sunday night blues jam continues on Sunday, March 24, commencing at 10 p.m. There is no cover.

The R2 Tasting Room welcomes Loren “Black Bart” Fletcher on tonight, March 22, for a 6:30 p.m. show.

The HopMonk Tavern Sonoma presents New Skye tonight, March 22, for an 8:30 p.m. show. Saturday, March 23, it’s Tim O’Neil, also kicking off at 8:30 p.m. There is no cover either night.

Sonoma Springs Brewery has Tom Martin tonight, March 22, for a show that gets underway at 6 p.m.
