With all-league, All-Empire senior Jonah Son providing a power boost, the Sonoma Valley High School varsity baseball boys racked up their fourth straight nonleague win to start preseason play Tuesday afternoon at Arnold Field.

In his first at-bat beginning the bottom of the second inning, clean-up-hitting first-baseman Son smashed a towering fly ball that sailed over the left-field fence for a homer, later adding two more RBIs as senior southpaw Brennan Cole pitched a four-hit, five-inning shutout as the Dragons posted a 10-run-rule, 10-0 win over Terra Linda.

Sonoma was led by winning pitcher Cole’s five-strikeout, three-walk effort, while also scoring a run; Son’s home run, single, three RBIs and two runs; senior Jaxson Strong’s and junior Dan Deely’s single, RBI and run each; junior Vinnie Albano’s single and two runs; seniors Garrett Walker’s and Bobby Woodworth’s single and RBI apiece; junior Miles Hagin’s single; seniors Richie Nunez’s and Michael Stovall’s RBI apiece; and junior Jack Murphy’s run.

The Dragons will attempt a Marin County sweep – with wins over San Marin, Novato and Terra Linda – when they travel to San Anselmo to battle Drake this afternoon, before hosting nonleague Eureka at 1 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday, March 9, at Arnold Field.
