Moving up another level on the competitive collegiate football ladder in the wake of his standout prep career, Braden Lyons will be taking his grid talent from the West Coast to the East Coast.

After one-year stops at Humboldt State University and national junior college power San Francisco City College, Lyons, a 2009 Sonoma Valley High School graduate, recently accepted an athletic scholarship to play football at Florida Atlantic University.

Lyons, a 6-5, 275-pound offensive lineman and former Sonoma County League all-league standout for the prep Dragons, is a mid-year transfer who begins his studies at his new college this week, is expected to be the starting right tackle for the Division-1 FAU Owls in the fall.

For Lyons, receiving an athletic scholarship to a Division-1 university and getting a chance for some intense grid action with the “big boys” – he definitely fits the description – fullfills his longtime football dream. We’ll definetly have to follow his progress when the 2013 season arrives in the fall.
