SONOMA VALLEY YOUTH Soccer Association will begin walk-in registration sessions for the 2013 season from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10, at Sassarini Elementary School, with a coaches kick around taking place from 10 a.m. to noon this Sunday, March 24, at Hanna Boys Center. On Saturday and Sunday, April 6 and 7, the SVYSA will hold a series of free soccer clinics for all Valley youth at Hanna Boys Center – 9 to 10:15 a.m. for under-10-year-old boys and girls; 10:30 a.m. to noon for under-12-year-olds; and 12:30 to 2 p.m. for under-14s.
SONOMA VALLEY HIGH School senior baseball players Jonah Son and Brennan Cole have combined their senior project efforts into a one-day home run derby event for all ages taking place on Saturday, March 30, at Arnold Field – funds raised go to improvements and restoration of Arnold Field, and for the Dragons’ baseball program. Ages 6-to-12-years-old will attempt to homer out of the infield from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; ages 13-to-18 make their home-run attempts from 3 to 5 p.m.; and ages 18-and-over will swing away from 5 to 8 p.m. (under the lights). The cost is $5 for eight swings (6-to-18-year-olds) and $10 for 10 swings (18-years-old-and-over), and the fundraising event will also include prizes, a raffle and a barbecue.
