Maryl Thompson ‘May’ McKoy
Maryl Thompson ‘May’ McKoy, age 74, passed away at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital on Feb. 8, 2013.
She was born in Lake Wales, Fla., on Dec. 18, 1938, a daughter of Roy and Audelle (Alford) Thompson. In 1967, while teaching for the Department of Defense at Cigli Air Force Base in Turkey, May met Air Force Fighter Pilot, William G. “Bill” McKoy. They were married in England on May 15, 1970.
In addition to her husband Bill, May is survived by a daughter, Heather McKoy (Erik Richard) Shumaker; grandchildren, Emily Grace and Jack Ryan Shumaker; a step-sister, Martha Hart “Mott” Beasley; and by numerous cousins.
May travelled extensively and enjoyed it very much. She had a great interest in history, loved to read, enjoyed snorkeling in Hawaii, played bridge and loved flowers. She was an outstanding homemaker, a gourmet cook and an elementary school and Sunday school teacher. May enjoyed people and took great pleasure in keeping in touch with friends both near and far. A beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, May will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church, 9000 Sonoma Hwy., Kenwood.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial contribution to a charity of your choice, or to one of May’s favorites (St. Jude’s Ranch for Children, 100 St. Jude’s Street, Boulder City, NV 89005 and/or Pet’s Lifeline, 19686 Eighth St. E., Sonoma, CA 95476).
