Mary Dorothy (Marie) Turpin
Mary Dorothy Turpin (Marie), born on March 27, 1918, in San Francisco, went home to her heavenly father on Jan. 31, 2013, surrounded by her adoring family in Sonoma.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Alvin; and her son, Robert. She left behind a large piece of herself in her sons, Melvin, Richard, Michael, Gary; her daughters, Diane and Terri; as well as 22 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Virginia.
Marie dedicated her life to the Lord, her family and friends and her community. Marie was a charter member of Sonoma Valley Community Church, which her father helped builds in 1945. She was well known in the town of Sonoma for her time spent working at both the old and new courthouses, volunteer work and charitable works with the churches of the community.
Marie continued her education at San Francisco State College after she retired from the courthouse as head clerk. Marie made a statement everyday in the way she took life head on regardless of the mountains and valleys in her path. She is remembered for her great strength to persevere, her open heart for anyone who needed it and her love of the Lord. She was an avid reader, loved to travel the world and always sought knowledge and wisdom in every aspect of her life. Her family will say there was never a bigger San Francisco Giants fan. She also loved football, hot air balloons and walking with her friend Frances. When her body began to hold her back she took joy in going to Sonoma Hills to play bingo and visit with her friends.
She left behind so much wisdom in the lessons and values she taught to her descendants by the way she chose to live her life with passion, hope and love. She will be missed as Ma, Momma, Grandma and Oma by her family. Her passing is softened by the knowledge that she is now at peace with the Lord and the family that passed before her.
Friends are invited to a visitation on Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Duggan’s Mission Chapel, 525 W. Napa St., Sonoma, CA. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at the Sonoma Valley Community Church, 181 Chase St., Sonoma, CA, 95476 at 12:30 p.m.
Private Interment, Mountain Cemetery, Sonoma.

Dear Diane,
I'm so sorry for the loss of your mom. I cared very much for her, as you know. She was a beautiful woman who loved Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. I cherish the times I walked with her to the Tuesday night bible studies. Her enthusiasm, great sense of humor, her wit and one-liners were awesome! I know she was a prayer warrior with a deep unswerving faith. May God bless you and your family through this difficult time.
Your sister in Christ,
Debbie
