Lloyd ‘Corky’ Henderson

Lloyd “Corky” Henderson of Independence, Ore., passed away peacefully on Feb. 22, 2013.

He was born in Philomath, Ore. and lived for many years in Sonoma, where he was actively involved with local baseball as well as other sports and youth activities. He was highly respected by many in the Sonoma Valley Babe Ruth League where in the 1980s he brought Senior Babe Ruth back to Sonoma. Much of the youth referred to him as simply Mr. H.

Corky was retired from his long-term employment with the Sonoma Developmental Center in Eldridge. After retirement, he moved with his wife to Independence Ore., where he, too, is respected by many. He loved hunting, fishing and playing poker where he made many friends.

Corky was preceded in death by his loving wife, Carolyn “Sally” Henderson. He is survived by his children, Keri Grace, of Pennsylvania; Mac Henderson, of Idaho; John Henderson and his wife, Kelley, of Virginia; Steve Henderson, of Dallas, Ore.; Teresa Micheile Henderson, of the Netherlands; as well as six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, all who loved him. Corky is also survived by his brother, Vernon “Vern” Henderson, of Keizer, Ore.

He was loved very much by many and will be dearly missed.

In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the American Cancer Society or Willamette Valley Hospice of Salem, Ore., in his honor.
