La Salette stays perfect, has 3-game lead in men’s Jack Benny hoops

Feb 7, 2013 - 02:28 PM

Between holiday weekends and last Sunday’s San Francisco 49ers loss to the Baltimore Ravens in the Super Bowl, there hasn’t been a consistent weekly round of games as of late in the Sonoma Valley Men’s Recreational Basketball’s Jack Benny (39-and-over) Sunday Night League .

But the constant breaks in the action haven’t disrupted front-running La Salette from remaining unbeaten and holding a three-game cushion atop the six-team standings.

Following La Salette’s first-place 8-0 record are Heffernan Insurance Brokers and Patt’s Copy World with 5-3 marks each, Murphy’s Irish Pub 4-4, R&B Custom Builders’ 2-6, and Cary’s Sports Bar and Grill’s 0-8.

In games played Sunday, Jan. 27, at the Altimira Middle School gym, La Salette upended R&B Custom Builders 57-46, led by Aaron Smith’s 15 points, Kim Batchelder’s 11, John Barr’s nine on three treys, Kenton Lewis’ and Marc Traverso’s eight apiece, and Don Fowler’s six. R&B was paced by Al Martinson’s game-high 19 points with five treys, Chris Nufo’s 10, Chris Schnabel’s five, Ron Hall’s four, and two each by Danny Dwyer, Larry Philpot, Gary MacKinnon and Dino Minatta.

Patt’s Copy World beat Murphy’s Irish Pub 72-56, led by Tim Lilly’s game-high 27 points with four treys, Mike Brennan’s 18, Robert Romano’s 16 with three treys, Dave Studdert’s six, Mark Fidler’s three and Don Flohr’s two. Pacing the Pub were Jeff Kellogg’s 20 points with three treys, Jamie Svanda’s nine on three treys, Rich Tunheim’s and Eric Jorgensen’s eight apiece, Steve Mellinger’s six and John Malinkowski’s five.

Heffernan Insurance Brokers defeated Cary’s Sports Bar and Grill 63-39, led by Kevin Jaggie’s game-high 23 points, Joe Neely’s 13, Devin Ajax’s 11, Clem Moore’s eight and Jerome Baker’s and Brian Stephenson’s four each.
