John O. Lund

John O. Lund, a Rohnert Park resident from 1969 to 2010, died at age 82. On Feb, 27, 2013, he passed to heaven in his sleep. He loved life and lived it to the fullest.

He was born in Berkeley, Nov. 25, 1930, to Agnes and Johan Lund. John grew up in Sonoma and visited Norway for family matters at age 16. He graduated from Sonoma Valley High School in class of '48 where he was singles tennis champion, member of the debate team and chess champion.

Following graduation, he joined the Merchant Marines and traveled to South America. He attended Napa Junior College, then went to SFSC and joined the Marines Corps. He attended Officer Training Camp and became a 1st Lietenant. He traveled the world.

After the Corps, he returned to Sonoma.

John had two failed marriages and three children – two girls and a boy, then in 1965 John met Barbara Louise, who had a young daughter. John and Barbara married and had two sons. John worked as stockbroker from 1968 until 1994. He was a softball team owner and soccer team coach. He bowled, golfed and played tennis. The organizations he belonged to were Lions, the JCs, Sons of the Golden West. He was president for Exchange Club, vice president and Hall Assoc. of Sons of Norway, Church Ministries Chairman for Gideons, on Missions Committee, a Church Deacon, Fellowship Committee, and a Big Brother. He campaigned for numerous candidates and he ran for Congress in the primaries in 1976.

Married for 47 years, John is survived by his loving wife, Barbara L. Lund; six children; 11 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren; as well as his cousins in the U.S., Norway and Denmark. He leaves many friends who were faithful until the end.

All friends and family are invited to attend a "Celebration of Life" for John at Cross and Crown Lutheran Church, 5475 Snyder Lane, Rohnert Park on Saturday, March 23, at 11 a.m.

Contributions in lieu of flowers to Gideons International, Cross and Crown Church, and Hospice of Petaluma.
