Hanna’s cagers, wrestlers return to NCS
Open field
After another upbeat regular season provided more positive results to strengthen the athletic programs at Hanna Boys Center’s recently formed Archbishop Hanna High School, the Hanna Hawks’ basketball and wrestling teams are returning to the postseason.
Archbishop Hanna High School’s consistently successful hoops squad posted a 15-9 overall record and was seeded 10th for North Coast Section Division-6 playoffs and will host seventh-seed Summerfield Waldorf of Santa Rosa (21-7) at 7 p.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, Feb. 20.
The winner will play a second-round game at second-seed Ferndale (11-11) this Saturday, Feb. 23.
As for the Archbishop Hanna High School’s wrestling team, this is only its second year of existence, but for the second time it’s succeeded in sending four grapplers to the prestigious NCS championships, which take place this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 22 and 23, at Newark Memorial High School in the East Bay.
The four Hanna Hawks who qualified for NCS with third-place finishes at Saturday’s Coastal Mountain Conference championships were seniors Adam Colon and Mario Harris, sophomore Alex Garcia and freshman Jose Alvarez-Mendoza.
At the conference finals, Harris, who won three NCS matches last year, posted a 2-1 record in the heavyweight division; Colon had a 3-1 mark at 195 pounds; Garcia finished 4-1 at 122; and Alvarez-Mendoza was 3-1 at 108.
Making the postseason is always quite an accomplishment and Archbishop Hanna High School’s cagers and wrestlers are making it an annual occurance. Keep up the hard work and well-earned achievements.
