Gun Appreciation Day an outrage
Editor, Index-Tribune:
In the days following the Sandy Hook shooting tragedy, the NRA offered no reasonable solutions for our national gun violence crisis. And now, a coalition of gun groups has organized a day to honor guns. The deaths of thousands of Americans from gun violence are no joke. NRA, Gun Appreciation Day is offensive and wrong, and we need to condemn it.
That’s why I signed a petition to Wayne LaPierre, National Rifle Association, that says, “Gun groups are planning to have a National Gun Appreciation Day on Jan. 19, the same weekend that Americans celebrate the life and service of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., an American leader who was assassinated by a rifle’s bullet.
“This is an outrage and a slap in the face to Americans who value life and freedom.”

Bob stated, “This is an outrage and a slap in the face to Americans who value life and freedom.”
So..Bob..are you saying that Americans that own firearms
do not "value life and freedom"? I would argue just the
opposite. We do value life. Especially of our own
and loved one's. That is what firearms are for. And
we love freedom. The freedom to own a firearm or not.
Guns don't kill people, people kill people!
You cannot prevent another Sandy Hook or Columbine by banning guns!
You can minimize the potential damage a crazy person can inflict with an AR15, an K47 or a Molotov Cocktail by arming teachers who want to protect themselves and their students.
We already have a sworn police officer assigned to our high school. Why is that?
Thanks Bob. I signed and forwarded it. Appreciate your comments, keep up the good work!
If you think this is a bad idea I have a question
for you Liberals. In light of all this gun talk
after the Sandy Hook incident don't you think
Obama's stupid remark about " the Republicans are
holding a gun to the head of the American people".
Obama was talking about the debt ceiling I believe.
Please!!! This is just a stupid and insensitive
as anything the NRA is doing. What Obama said might
even be worse if you ask me. I could imagine the
ranting and raving (from people like Bob E., Tom S.,
Will S. etc:) that would occur if George Bush had
said something like that.
In case you doubt me.

I also agree its an outrage, I will be more than happy to sign any petition to move Dr. Martin Luther King Day to any other weekend than Jan 19.
