Girlfriends Getaway Month returns with tastes, tours, treats

Feb 28, 2013 - 05:54 PM

The Sonoma Valley Visitors Bureau (SVVB) announced the return of Girlfriends Getaway, a month-long program of promotions designed to let girlfriends relax, reconnect and enjoy all that Sonoma Valley has to offer.

It all begins with the “Wine Bomb Bus Tour” on Saturday, March 9 – a chance to see some of the best Sonoma wineries while being transported – on a luxury chartered bus.

The bus will visit at least four wineries for tastings and include flash discounts on wines and merchandise through social media. Tastings, transportation and a gourmet lunch are all included, so guests can reach for their camera phones rather than their wallets. As night falls, the tour moves on to a spirited finale at the Co-ed Warehouse After-Party, held in an artisanal distillery in Sonoma and featuring live DJs, food trucks, wine and spirits and dancing.

Tickets are $275 for the full “Wine Bomb Bus” experience, or $25 for only the after-party. For tickets and more information, visit brownpapertickets.com/event/332383.

Featuring an array of specials and activities that allow travelers to mix and match to customize their trip, Girlfriend’s Getaway Month is an opportunity for girlfriends to explore the Valley together.

Travelers can indulge in luxury spa treatments, yoga classes and hiking in the beautiful Sonoma landscape, enjoy shopping for the gourmet and the fashionista, educate their palettes at world-class wineries, and, of course, savor the celebrated Sonoma cuisine.

Some of the March events include:

• Savor Sonoma Valley returns March 16 and 17, during which 22 Valley wineries will be showcasing the 2012 vintage straight from the barrels, sampling new releases and offering award-winning wines paired with scrumptious food prepared by local chefs and restaurants. Visit heartofsonomavalley.com or call 866-794-9463 for more information.

• On March 3 and 10, from 1 to 4 p.m., Ledson Winery and Vineyards will pour vintage wines in the parlor while a representative from Silpada will have a dazzling jewelry collection on display. Visit ledsonwinery.com or call 833-2330 for more information.

• The Olive Press invites girlfriends to learn about the beauty benefits of the olive and make their own facial scrubs with Laura Anderson of Panacea on Saturday, March 1, at 10 a.m. Guests will be offered exclusive discounts on Olive Press products, take their scrub home in a reusable Mason jar and experience a complimentary tour of the Olive Press – all for free. Then on Saturday, March 9 at 11 a.m., Jacuzzi Family Winery is offering prosecco and free hand massages by a local massage therapist with the Olive Press Massage Oil.
