Francine Jeanne (Wedekind) Stumpf

Francine, a Sonoma girl, was born Oct. 5, 1944, in La Junta, Colo., and died Jan. 24, 2013, in Ukiah where she lived and worked at Mendocino Wine Co. (Parducci Winery).

She attended St. Francis Solano School and was a member of Sonoma Valley High School’s class of 1962. During her collegiate years, Francine spent winters in Cloudcroft, N.M., and Winter Park, Colo., on ski patrol. She spent a wonderful summer working on a dude ranch in the Colorado Rockies.

Francine married James Stumpf in Sonoma in 1971. They spent the next 31 years building and remodeling homes in Oregon, Washington and Montana. After Jim’s death in 2002, Francine returned to California and chose Ukiah as her new home. Soon after her return, she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, which she accepted courageously and continued to work and lead an active life.

She was the cherished daughter of Lorraine and the late Frank Wedekind, of Sonoma. Francine is also survived by her loving sisters, Joanne Stumpf, of Grants Pass, Ore.; Janet Wedekind, of Sonoma; and her rescue labrador, Sedum.

A celebration of Francine’s life will be held on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at noon at Parducci Winery, 501 Parducci Road, Ukiah.

Prior to the celebration, a Mass will be said at 11 a.m. at St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church, 991 S. Dora St., Ukiah.

Memorial contributions may be made to your preferred charity.
