Getting their 2013 spring sports preseason off to an upbeat start, Sonoma Valley High School’s boys’ tennis team traveled to Napa on Friday and served up a one-sided 7-1 nonleague victory over Justin-Siena.
Leading the Dragons were former Sonoma County League singles champion senior Sean Hall’s 6-3, 7-5 triumph over Lokey at No. 1 singles; senior Stephen Montano’s 6-1, 6-0 victory over Putsch at No. 2 singles; senior Connor Griggs-Demmin’s 6-1, 6-0 defeat of Lounibos at No. 3 singles; senior Liam Casey’s 6-2, 7-5 win over Gurgui at No. 4 singles; sophomore Caleb Horowitz’s 6-2, 6-1 decision over Manassi at No. 5 singles; senior Griffin Hill’s 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Gauthier at No. 6 singles; sophomore Magnus Forsythe and freshman Sam Sondheim’s 6-1, 6-1 victory over Pannetier and Wignal at No. 1 doubles; and frosh Chris Angel’s and Rafael Hernandez’s 6-7, 4-6 edging by Maxon and Rossini at No. 2 doubles.
Sonoma’s boy netters, who are the defending champions after winning their first league title since 1989, will open the SCL season hosting longtime rival Petaluma at 3:30 p.m. next Tuesday, Feb. 26, on the high school courts.

The varsity baseball Dragons open their preseason by hosting longtime nonleague rival and perennial NCS Division-3 power, San Marin, at 7 p.m. this Saturday, Feb. 23, at Arnold Field.

Sonoma’s track and field teams will hold their annual season-opening intra-squad Green and White Relays and Alumni Meet starting at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at Schantz Track.
