Dragon boy netters blank Piner, swim squads split with Petaluma
Make it a convincing two-win start to their Sonoma County League season: the defending SCL champion Sonoma Valley High School tennis boys backed up their 6-1 rout of longtime rival Petaluma by slamming home a 7-0 shutout victory over new league-foe Piner last Thursday on the high school courts.
Leading the Dragons were senior Sean Hall’s 6-3, 6-4 topping of To at No. 1 singles; senior Stephen Montano’s 6-0, 6-3 triumph over Tran at No. 2 singles; senior Connor Griggs-Demmin’s 6-4, 6-2 downing of Rosales at No. 3 singles; senior Liam Casey’s 6-0, 7-6 bettering of Benelli at No. 4 singles; senior Griffin Hill’s and sophomore Magnus Forsythe’s 6-3, 6-7, 12-10 edging of Carson and Tran at No. 1 doubles; senior Peter Gray’s and sophomore Caleb Horowitz’s 6-3, 6-3 win over Roallos and Tesfamichael at No. 2 doubles; and sophomore Alex Gustafson’s and freshman Sam Sondheim’s 6-3, 6-1 victory over Facendini and Wright at No. 3 doubles.
The Dragon boy netters travel to Sebastopol today for a league clash with Analy, before returning home to host the other new SCL school, Elsie Allen, at 3:30 p.m. this Thursday, March 7, at the high school courts.
As for Sonoma’s boy golfers, they will host El Molino in their SCL opener at 3:30 p.m. today on the Sonoma Golf Club course.

Sonoma’s boys’ and girls’ swim teams, who swept Piner to open their SCL dual-meet campaign, hosted longtime league rival Petaluma Friday at the Sonoma Aquatic Center pool and ended up with a split.
The Dragon boys pulled out a 72-63 victory, while the Lady Dragons dropped a 79-73 decision, with the complete meet results for both Piner and Petaluma will appear in Friday’s, March 8, I-T.
Both Sonoma squads travel to Petaluma to face St. Vincent’s in 4 p.m. SCL dual-meets this Thursday, March 7.
