Laura Zimmerman, executive director of the Sonoma Valley Education Foundation, toasts with Bruce Cohn after his B.R. Cohn Charity Events Fall Music Festival donated $35,000 to the foundation.

In an annual holiday tradition, philanthropist, vintner and concert promoter Bruce Cohn distributed a portion of the proceeds from his 26th annual B.R. Cohn Charity Events Fall Music Festival held in October at the B.R. Cohn Winery Amphitheatre in Glen Ellen. The event raised $35,000 for the Sonoma Valley Education Foundation.

“As the political discussions in our communities on education amplify, it reinforces to me the need to keep supporting outside-the-box organizations that help fill the need and bang the drum for improvement. This is why I support the Sonoma Valley Education Foundation,” said Bruce Cohn. “I hope this donation can help move kids and programs forward in Sonoma Valley.”

Since 1993, The Sonoma Valley Education Foundation (svgreatschools.org) has raised more than $5 million for the public schools in Sonoma Valley. The purpose of the Sonoma Valley Education Foundation is to make sure every student graduates well prepared for college, career and civic responsibility. SVEF supports local schools by funding programs aimed at raising student achievement and creating a generation of students who love to learn. Currently, the foundation funds the Exploratorium Science Program and the Visual Thinking Strategies Art Program in five local elementary schools, plus “Preschool for All” at El Verano Elementary School, the Teacher Support Network at Sonoma Valley High School and the district-wide school garden program.

“We are so grateful to all our donors, but especially Bruce and his team at B.R. Cohn Charity Events. The concert weekend and their support are vital to our Valley and our kids,” said Laura Zimmerman, executive director of the Sonoma Valley Education Foundation.

Over the years, Cohn has been able to raise more than $6 million for various local and national charities including national veterans organizations. Proceeds from this year’s festival will be spread among several charities including the Sonoma Valley Education Foundation, Sonoma Valley Mentoring Alliance, Redwood Empire Food Bank, The Guardsmen, Operation Homefront, and American Legion Post #489.

B.R. Cohn Winery is located at 15000 Sonoma Highway 12 in Glen Ellen. For more information, call 800-330-4064 or for other information, see brcohn.com.
