Cajun boil to help save youth sports

Feb 28, 2013 - 07:04 PM

Save Our Sports is back with a fundraiser to keep youth sports thriving in Sonoma Valley’s public middle schools. On Saturday, March 9, Save Our Sports teams up with the Sonoma Valley Education Foundation to offer a Mardi Gras Cajun Boil at the Sonoma Valley Veterans Memorial Building, 126 First St. W.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. with a no-host bar, followed by the southern-style feast served at 7 p.m. Wine will be served with dinner, while specialty hurricane cocktails will be created in honor of the Mardi Gras theme (all guests must be age 21 and up).

Other attractions include a raffle and silent auction with a variety of items from local businesses. Then there’s the dice bar, and dancing to classic songs performed live by BackTrax.

Tickets are $45 a person, or $50 at the door. Proceeds will fund the 2013-14 middle school sports programs at both Adele Harrison and Altimira. These programs are utilized by more than 380 students, and include basketball, track, soccer, wrestling and volleyball.

For tickets, send checks made payable to the Sonoma Valley Education Foundation (put SOS in memo) to P.O. Box 752, Sonoma, CA 95476. Tickets are also available in the office at Adele and Altimira middle schools.

For more information, call Chickie Vella at 938-3232 or Stacey Ellis-Schoeningh at 227-6285.
