A remarkable man who will never be forgotten

Mar 7, 2013 - 03:47 PM

Editor, Index-Tribune:

I love David Bolling’s description of Niels Chew as “community conscience.” Having known and worked with Niels for more than 20 years, I have always admired his standing up for what he believed – even when it was not popular. His active support for people, especially teachers and those in need, is the quality I most admired in him. Many people in Sonoma will miss his immediate response when help was needed. I will dearly miss him as my friend.

Professionally, we worked together when he was on the board of trustees for the Sonoma Valley Unified School District. His direct and active support for the two bond measures we passed to help Sonoma schools is one of the legacies he will leave behind.

How blessed the Sonoma Valley community has been to have benefitted from this remarkable man who will never be forgotten.
