One driver was killed in a two-car accident just outside the Sonoma city limits Monday.
The driver of an early ’90s-model white Corolla was pronounced dead at the scene after a collision with a grey Volvo SUV, according to California Highway Patrol. The driver of the Corolla, an 84-year-old man whose identity had not been released at press time, pulled out of Burndale Road into oncoming traffic on Napa Road. The SUV collided with the front end and driver’s side door of the Corolla, according to CHP Officer William Bradshaw, likely killing the driver instantly.
The driver, a male, and passengers of the Volvo SUV were unhurt except for minor cuts and scrapes, said Bradley. Also in the Volvo were the driver’s wife, their two daughters and the children’s nanny (pictured above).
The accident occurred at approximately 11:45 a.m. at the intersection of Napa and Burndale roads, just east of Sonoma. Both cars had skidded off the road and down the berm with the Volvo further off the road. CHP determined the deceased driver of the Corolla to be at fault.
Napa Road was closed for a portion of the afternoon because of the accident and reopened to one-lane traffic after approximately an hour.

Wow..On Our way to Hanna, drove by and saw his dead body in the car..Makes you think. So family is it,,,
Don Geddes was a wonderful man and will be greatly missed. My heart goes out to his family.
Oh wow, an elderly driver was in an accident and was completely at fault, what a surprise!
I think its about time the elderly are held to stricter standards when it comes to driving.
Personally, I'm happy that the family was mostly uninjured, I'm even more glad that the old man died, one more person who shouldn't be driving in the first place is taken off the road!
So sorry about Mr. Geddes, whether he should have been driving or not. I'm also sorry Mr. Damien Croaley had to be so mean at a time of loss like this for the Geddes family. Regardless of the circumstances it's all quite sad. RIP Mr. Geddes.
Mr. Geddes was a good man. One of my favorite art teachers. He will be missed.
Wow, some people think that they know who was at fault. there could have been speeding involved.
It may not have been Mr. Geddes fault. Maybe be a wise choice not to comment unless you know what has happened.
Don was a great man with a big heart. This accident could have easily happened to anyone, young or old alike - it's disappointing that others are quick to be critical. My regards and well-wishes to family, and others affected by this accident.
I hope, Mr. Croaly, that you never have to experience the death of a loved one in such a tragic way, and then have someone say such horrible things about the person you love. I will pray for you.

Oh man, Damien. That was cold. I knew Mr. Geddes. He was a teacher of mine. I hope you never find yourself having to place judgement upon one of your elderly relatives who might find themselves in this situation. Would you feel the same way? I feel sorry for you.
And one more thing...Damien, I don't know how your disrespectful comment got approved to be posted here.
