Young featured at Arts Guild exhibit
"Passages" by Sandy Young, Mixed Media with Kiln-formed Glass, Antique Key and Wire on Panel, 18" x 18"
The Arts Guild of Sonoma, in their August show, will feature artist Sandy Young as well as new work by guild member artists. The exhibition runs through Aug. 27 at the AGS gallery at 140 E. Napa St.
Young is a mixed media artist who’s work combines kiln-formed glass with mixed media painting and photography. “My work concerns itself with the multidimensionality of individual life experience,” said Young. “I use overlaying images, handwriting, marks and forms to symbolically represent tracings of internal experience.”
Through a layering process and varying of transparencies, Sandy obscures and reveals image fragments that are meant to reference what she describes as, “the arena where time compresses and expands, and where ideas, emotions and memories appear and disappear.”
In July, Sandy Young received awards for her mixed media art at the “California Works” show at the California State Fair, and from the Sacramento Fine Arts Center.
The Arts Guild of Sonoma, located right off the historic Sonoma Plaza is a contemporary art gallery with changing monthly exhibits showcasing the work of local artists. Opening Receptions are held on the first Friday of each month and exhibit pieces in acrylic, encaustic, oil and water color paintings, jewelry, mixed media work, ceramics, metal sculpture and more, including smaller objects d'art, prints and note-cards.
The guild was created to exhibit and advance the creative efforts of local Bay Area artists. Founded in 1977, the guild has solidified its status as the oldest, continuously operating artists’ collective in the State of California.
