Writers invited to submit to PlayFest

Jan 10, 2013 - 05:07 PM

Sonoma writers are invited to submit their work for PlayFest 2013, a program of Sonoma Stage Work. The winning playwright will have their work featured during the Sonoma Theatre Alliance’s summer season at the Sonoma Community Center.

Entries must be designated 10-minute or one-act, with one-acts being no longer than 30 pages; and 10-minute plays limited to 10 pages. All plays have a four actor maximum, although may have unlimited characters played by those actors. Plays will be selected for a staged reading, with the further possibility of a full stage production.

All submittals will be juried, with winning selections receiving a designated director and rehearsal opportunity for presentation as a staged reading the weekend of June 1 and 2. After the staged readings, several plays will be selected for full-stage production by Sonoma Stage Works on Sept. 21 and 22 in Andrews Hall.

The deadline for submissions is Friday, March 15. Each author may only submit one script. When submitting a script, the title page should also include the author’s name, address, phone number and email address. Page two should list characters and a description of the setting. Page three should be the first page of the script, which should be double-spaced. Scenery and costumes requirements should be minimal.

Scripts should be sent by email only to Playfest@sonomastageworks.org. This invitation is open to residents of Northern California, with preference given to Bay Area and neighboring county residents.
