It’s mat-action time for the Sonoma Valley High School wrestling program, which opens its season with the varsity and junior varsity teams hosting Justin-Siena (Napa) and Hanna Boys Center in a preseason three-team competition at 6 p.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, Dec. 5, in Golton Hall.

The varsity Dragons will then grapple in the annual, and highly competive, Golden Gate Classic at George Washington High School in San Francisco this Saturday, Dec. 8.

Sonoma’s varsity wrestlers continue their December competitions at the Healdsburg Duals on Saturday, Dec. 15, and the annual, and challenging, Sierra Nevada Classic in Reno, Wednesday through Friday, Dec. 26 to 28.

The Dragon varsity wrestlers will open their 2013 Sonoma County League dual-match season on Wednesday, Jan. 2, when they travel to Forestville for a showdown with El Molino.

On Friday and Saturday, Jan. 4 and 5, Sonoma will host its annual Valley of the Moon Classic.

The Dragons’ junior varsity and first-year wrestlers competed in the annual Novice Tournament at Elsie Allen in Santa Rosa on Saturday, with the results not available at presstime.
