Sonoma Raceway’s second annual Winter Jam will kick off the holiday season with a full day of drifting tomorrow, Saturday, Dec. 22, hosted by Sonoma Drift.
With the event taking place between Turns 4-and-7 of the 12-turn Valley road course, the drivers – judged on execution and style rather than who finishes the course fastest – work to control their high-horsepower cars while they slide sideways at high speed.
The drifting first-place winner will receive free entrance to all 2013 Sonoma Drift events, including the Summer Jam, Winter Jam and all four rounds of the all-new Sonoma Drift Series.
Drivers scheduled to attend and participate in the morning session are professional Formula Drift competitors Luke Lonberger, Matt Field and Ryan Bell, along with four newly-crowned professional drifters, including Boulder Creek’s Marcus Fry, Rohnert Park’s Sean Hoover, San Jose’s Eugene Kretschmer and San Diego’s Tyler Wolfson.
Saturday’s Winter Jam practice gets under way at 8 a.m. and qualifying is slated for 11:15 a.m. followed by the main competition. Competitors can still register for the event for $140 (4pt. roll cage required) and admission is $10 for spectators, with children 12-years-old-and-under admitted free.
