SONOMA VALLEY HIGH School’s winter sports programs began their preseason workouts for the 2012-13 campaigns last Monday. Students who want to participate in Sonoma’s winter sports of basketball and wrestling need to have all their paperwork and mandatory current physical examinations completed before the official opening of preseason practices for that sport. Forms and paperwork are available at the SVHS student activities office Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS of Sonoma Valley need referees for their basketball leagues for boys and girls in third-through-eighth grades. Experience is preferred, and so are adult refs, but training is available and high school students are welcome to inquire. Referees are paid for each game. SONOMA VALLEY TENNIS Association will hold a Friday Post-Thanksgiving Afternoon Round Robin event at the Maxwell Farms Regional Park courts on Nov. 23, with warmups starting at 2, and play beginning promptly at 2:15 p.m. Cost is free to SVTA members and $10 for nonmembers, with the player limit being the first 20 registering. The SVTA is also offering a free program for beginners and returning players from 3 to 4 p.m. on Saturdays, Nov. 10 (tomorrow) and 17, at the Maxwell Farms courts. No registration is required.
