Wildflower walk set at Jack London Park
Calypso orchid can be found throughout California.
Get the first tastes of spring with a wildflower walk at Jack London State Historic Park this Saturday, March 9, at 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Join park naturalists and see close up the shift from winter to spring. During the journey, you can expect to spot trillium, fairy bells, redwood sorrel, shooting stars, milkmaids, hounds tongue, buttercups, Indian warrior, star lily, California poppies and maybe even Calypso orchid. The slow-paced, 3.5-mile hike will begin on the Lake Loop Trail, meander along the Quarry Trail before winding down to Vineyard Trail.
Bring binoculars and cameras. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water and a light snack or lunch. Hikers should plan to meet in the upper parking lot
The $10 tickets can be purchased in advance online at jacklondonpark.com, or at the kiosk day of event.
Hikers should note there is a $10 parking fee that must be paid at the main gate upon entering the park.
