Weak at best, ludicrous at worst

Oct 18, 2012 - 04:53 PM

Editor, Index-Tribune:

Your editorial in Tuesday’s paper naming your recommendations for election to the Sonoma City Council is a huge disappointment. Your stated reasons for supporting two candidates over two others is weak at best and ludicrous at worst. You rate all candidates with very general comments that are not supported by concrete examples of why or how this characteristic is beneficial or detrimental. Your editorial includes vague generalities and unclear reasoning. You fail to mention a single accomplishment by any candidate.

Your editorial provides no credibility for your selections and undermines the importance of the job. My favorite line of all is, “But we’re not sure she has lived here long enough to really understand Sonoma.” That is so Sonoma!

I am a friend of Madolyn Agrimonti and believe she has the record to make an excellent council member. She has experience in government, is articulate, professional, and committed to Sonoma as demonstrated by her work with the hospital and community center.

However, I live in Boyes Hot Springs and, of course, will not be voting for any of these candidates.

The voters of Sonoma deserve more from you. I suggest you adopt the policy of many other newspapers, including the Press Democrat, and refrain from recommending candidates, and instead provide real, unbiased information on what each candidate has to offer. I have every confidence that the voters of Sonoma will elect council members based on their knowledge of the candidate’s strengths as evidenced by their stated intentions, their record as public servants and their documented accomplishments.
